Twelve pictures of base-ten blocks: rods of ten and single cubes. Children count each kind, write how many tens and ones, then the 2-digit number they make. The rods are drawn with their ten cubes marked, so they can be counted one by one at first.

Ideas for using these sheets

  • Count the rods by tens out loud, 10, 20, 30, then the cubes by ones.
  • Show the same number with real blocks, then trade a rod for ten cubes.
  • Ask what changes if one more cube is added, and when ten cubes make a new rod.

Every setting can be changed above before you print, and “New problems” makes a fresh sheet as often as you like.
